Summer Reading and Math Work 

4th Grade Summer Reading:

 

Students entering 4th grade are required to write 2 paragraphs for each book they read this summer. The paragraphs should be 5-8 sentences per paragraph.  

 

  • The first paragraph should be a summary of the book.

  • The second paragraph should be a description of the main characters and the setting(s). Also, there should be three sentences which include why the student did or didn’t like the book and if the student would recommend the book to another student.

 

Students entering 4th grade are required to read three books from the below list:

 

  • Stuart Little by E.B. White  

  • Runaway Ralph by Beverly Cleary

  • Little House in the Big Wood by Laura Ingalls Wilder

  • Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Day by Jeff Kinney

  • Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl

  • Tales of A Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume

  • Teammates by Peter Golenbock

  • Winter’s Tale: How One Little Dolphin Learned How to Swim Again by Juliana Hatkoff The  Boy Who Harnessed The Wind by William Kamkwamba

 

4th Grade Summer Math:

 

Students entering the 4th grade must have multiplication and division facts through twelve memorized. Additionally, please use Khan Academy for 3rd grade addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Specifically, complete all addition, subtraction and multiplication lessons and quizzes. Also, please work on division.  Please watch the lesson and take the quiz related to the “divide by two”. It moves along quickly and the questions are aga appropriate.

 

Current ASCS use their Google/login that they used for Duo Lingo. New students in ASCS may sign into Khan Academy with a parent email. The website is: https://www.khanacademy.org/math/cc-third-grade-math
