All Saints Catholic School Spanish: Sra. Tracy

Bienvenidos, Welcome! My name is Sra. Tracy and I am looking forward to a wonderful year of Spanish with you child. I will do my very best to help your child be successful this year. Please feel free to contact me at btracy@ascsde.org if you have a concern or questions this year. With effort and organization, your child will be a successful second language learner.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Students will build upon Spanish language learning they have already acquired. Learning will be differentiated for all levels of learners. We will focus on basic Spanish vocabulary, conversational Spanish and use visual cues and context to understand what is being said. Worksheets, flashcards and fun activities such as music and role play will also be used to learn new words.
We will also explore at the geography and cultures of the Spanish-speaking around the world.

EXPECTATIONS
It is expected that students will focus during the lessons while the vocabulary is explored through visual cues and prompts.
We will use interpretation of “body language” and other visual cues in every class.
Students are expected to participate fully in the classroom. Participation includes, answering questions, acting out vocabulary, team dialogue and completing the given assignments.
It is equally important for students to be actively paying attention when someone else is asking a question, answering it or acting out the vocabulary during class.

We will go over forms of greetings in Spanish and the manner in which they should be used in different situations.
We will study the Spanish alphabet and begin to read words in Spanish and approximate the correct spelling.

We will understand the concept of gender in Spanish grammar.
We will express likes and dislikes.

We will go over words to describe common weather conditions, the days of the week, months, seasons, and how to say the date in the correct form.

BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS
We will work together to create an atmosphere that is kind and respectful, where students are willing to learn and are not afraid to make mistakes, take risks or admit confusion.
The keys to a successful second language learning experience are a positive attitude, hard work and communication with the teacher. Let’s work together to have fun during this academic year as we learn to speak Spanish!

GRADES
Class participation is a critical and integral part of foreign language learning.
Students will receive points based on preparedness, attentiveness, cooperation, partner/group on-task behavior and efforts to use the foreign language.
Grades will be given for classwork, projects, quizzes and tests, and most importantly, class participation.

I am excited to be the Spanish teacher this year and I am looking forward to an exciting, fun year. Remember, I am here to help your child be a successful learner. Together we succeed!

Spanish Club

All Saints Catholic School Creates a Spanish Club!

The Spanish Club will be an opportunity for students to enrich their learning of Spanish,  learn more about cultural diversity and develop a respect for a culture they may know little about.

If you’re interested in learning about Spanish cultures, if you want to improve your knowledge of music in Spanish, or if you just want a place to practice speaking Spanish, join the ASCS Spanish Club.

WHY ARE SCHOOL CLUBS GREAT FOR STUDENT LEARNING?  Students choose to be there! The learning is informal and the only “test” at the end is how well students were able to communicate in Spanish in real life scenarios. The learning is also meaningful, practical, and relevant to the lives and interests of students!

HERE ARE SOME EXCITING AND FUN IDEAS THE SPANISH CLUB WILL EXPLORE…

  • SPANISH LANGUAGE MOVIE NIGHT.  After school on a few Fridays throughout the year, we will move the desks in the Spanish classroom, spread out blankets, and watch a Spanish-language film while we enjoy some popcorn.

  • SUPPORT AN INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN CAMPAIGN.  Our club will brainstorm and research ways we can learn and help those who need it most.  For example, we may “adopt” a child in Mexico through Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos.

  • HOST A DANCE PARTY OR LESSON.  Learn some basic steps and dance some merengue and salsa.

  • DESIGN CLUB T-SHIRTS.  Students will design a club shirt!

  • HOST THE PULSERA PROJECT.  Our first service project will be the  Pulsera Project. We will sell homemade pulseras from artisans in Nicaragua. The Pulsera Project is a nonprofit organization that educates, empowers, and connects Central American artists with students in more than 2,800 U.S. schools through the sale of colorful hand woven bracelets, or "pulseras" in Spanish.

  • HOST A SPANISH LANGUAGE MUSIC VIDEO PRODUCTION CHALLENGE.  Club members form small groups to choreograph, produce, and star in a music video for a Spanish language song of their choice.

  • VISIT A SPANISH RESTAURANT TO ORDER FOOD IN SPANISH AND TRY NEW FOODS.

  • TAKE A FIELD TRIP TO A LOCAL MUSEUM OR EVENT RELATED TO SPANISH CULTURE

More information on the Spanish Club will be provided at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year.   Contact Sra. Tracy at btracy@ascsde.org for more information or questions.
