6/8/18

Parents are invited to join us at Vilone Park on Wednesday, 6/13. We will be there from 9 to 2

Our last two projects!

We completed a mural in the hallway of the Amazon jungle. Each student chose and researched an animal. They then drew it, colored it, and cut it out to add to our scene. Lastly we added cards with facts about each animal and invited classes to hear our presentations. Lots of compliments from visitors! Check out the pictures in the Photo Album tab.

We also are performing an Earth Day play. We practiced our lines, designed and constructed costumes and the set. We have performed the play for several classrooms. The students have done a great job!

On the fourth grade web site, please look for the rising fourth grade summer work

What a busy year! We have learned so much! Thank you for all of your support. Thank you for entrusting your child to me this year. I have loved my over 40 years in Catholic education, and especially these 7 years at All Saints Catholic School. Besides spending time with my newly retired husband, and having time to enjoy my 5 grandchildren, and being available to be more help to my 91 year old parents, I also plan to return as a substitute!

I will keep all of the ASCS community in my prayers, especially this class as they assume the responsibilities of fourth graderts.

Have a great summer!

We enjoyed a wonderful feast of foods from different heritages! Our delicious menu included dishes from England, Poland, Dominican Republic, Germany, Nicaragua, Chile, Ireland, Mexico and Jamaica! I was glad to see that everyone was willing to try everything. Thank you so much for your enthusiastic support of this project. What a great learning experience about the richness of our culture!

Thanks to Mrs. Smith, we all participated in a great Field Day!

Please visit the PHOTO tab to view pictures of the feast and Field Day.

We have now defeated 5th and 7th grade in 24 competitions! 24 cards are a great way to sharpen number sense and computation skills this summer.

Congratulations to the amazing mathematicians of the the third grade! We challenged the fourth and sixth graders to a 24 competition and we won!! Next week we will compete against the fifth and seventh graders.

After making over 200 bracelets and collecting donations, the final total for Heifer International is $320! With this money, we decided to purchase 4 flocks of chickens and 2 goats. Each family that receives an animal gift must pass on an offspring to another family. So through helping these 6 families, we can change the future of entire villages.

On Tuesday, the entire school will participate in field day. Students should wear their STEM shirt and gym shorts. Please be sure that your child has applied sunscreen and has a water bottle, since we are outside most of the day. In the afternoon, we hope to view the movie Charlotte's Web to compare it to the book we are reading.

On Wednesday, we will celebrate the various heritages of the students with a cultural food tasting! Please send in enough for everyone to have a SMALL  taste of some food from a country that is part of your heritage. Each student should also learn a word from that country to teach the class and be able to locate it on the map. Thank you for your help with this.

  • STREAM Night is here! On Tuesday, May 8th from 6-8, the third graders will be proud to show off their projects related to the UN Global Goals about poverty and hunger. Come see their posters and iMovies about the benefits of different animals to be purchsed from Heifer International. Whose information will convince you that their animal is the best choice? You can cast your vote!
  • Third graders are honing their computational skills by challenging each other to play "24". The game is played by making 24 using all 4 numbers on the card through adding, subtracting multiplying and/or dividing. The first person to slap the card and give a correct solution earns 1, 2, or 3 points depending on the level of difficulty. Our goal is to compete against the 4th through 8th grades. Parents, can you solve these? For 2 points: (2, 3, 7, 8) For 3 points: (2, 5, 6, 6) Good luck!
  • Congratulations to our class who exceeded the challenge to earn 300 AR  points!! We will celebrate with an ice cream party on Monday. I will bring the ice cream, and many students volunteered to bring the bowls, spoons, and toppings. Please ask your child what they chose to provide.

  •   Third Grade News
  • The third graders each chose a animal that they thought would be most beneficial to purchase with our funds for Heifer International. Students are working in teams to produce iMovies that explain the benefits of the animal they chose. These will be part of our STREAM Night presentation next week on May 8.
  • On Monday, the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders worked together to clean up the school grounds and gathered in the garden for an outside prayer service to celebrate Earth Day.
  • Thank you for your support of our Read to Feed activity for Heifer International. Third graders are challenged to read 5 books before May 8 and bring in $5 or more toward the purchase of animals for struggling families. Please ask your child how many books they have finished so far and encourage them to raise the $5.
  • In the place of Terra Nova, the students will be taking the STAR Reading and Math tests this week. Results will be sent home.
